Opening on March 16, "The Women of Kabul. In the gaze of photographer Pino Settanni" is the new exhibition at the Fondazione Cirulli in San Lazzaro di Savena that displays a selection of 13 shots taken by the Roman photographer Settanni in 2002, when he was in Afghanistan on behalf of the Italian Army. The photographs, digitally processed in 2003 and printed on Kodak Metal Process Lambda paper in a 50 x 70 cm format, give a strongly evocative final effect.

The protagonists of the images are Afghan female figures wrapped in the traditional burqa, inserted in everyday spaces deformed by guerrilla warfare and danger. Women of Kabul wrapped in long fluttering dresses, whose silhouettes are broken up and reassembled in new, deformed and sometimes disturbing shapes, sometimes transformed into almost angelic figures, while the veil ruffled by the wind becomes a metaphor for a difficult life, marked by the pain of serious renunciations.

The new exhibition section opens to the public on Wednesday, March 16 at 18.30 with an inaugural evening dedicated to photography as a privileged channel for a critical look at the world and an effective tool for social, political and cultural denunciation (reservation required at info@fondazionecirulli.org; entrance ticket €10.00). The proceeds of the evening will be donated to charity.

The exhibition will then be open in a calendar of weekends until December 31.
